Éadaoin Curtin - Personal Branding Shoot - Dublin, Ireland

Oh my gosh, I had THE BEST time shooting with the amazing Éadaoin last summer. Éadaoin is a kindred spirit and was so much fun to spend time with… it was such a pleasure to capture her in and around Dublin, Ireland where she’s based, in her many creative zones and favourite places.

I love getting to capture ‘a day in the life’ of my clients, creating both planned portraits, story-telling images, and unexpected moments, as we flow through the day, and this was one of those shoots. That creative freedom is one of the things I most love about this work… having a strong vision for our session, maintaining clear intentions for the outcome of the images whilst at the same time staying open to creativity and the serendipities!

As a fellow personal brand photographer and artist, Éadaoin was preparing to increase her visibility and share her message in a bigger way.

She was looking to come away from our day with a library of personalised images that she could update her website with, use in Instagram posts, email marketing and more. It was important for her also to experience what it was like to be on the other side of the camera, and go through the journey her own clients go through.

It was so awesome chatting with her and planning the shoot in the lead up to our day, and it was beautiful how aligned we are in our values and approach to our work in branding - we had such a good understanding. She is passionate about women empowerment, visibility and voices, and her fascinating journey has led her to be so beautifully positioned to do this work. You can find out more about her interesting journey on her About page here.

It’s so important to walk your talk, to invest in yourself and also to try being on the ‘receiving end’ of the service you offer to from time to time, because…

  • firstly (obvs!) it provides you with the benefits of whatever that service is.

  • it gives you a truer, deeper understanding of where your clients are at when they come to you, and the challenges they may be facing when they work with you.

  • it provides you with the tools of real experience to support your clients more fully, as you come from a broader perspective.

This is what Eadaoin bravely did for herself, and I think it’s an important journey to take, and example to set.

If you’re investing in yourself, doing the work, and showing that you believe in the service you offer, you inspire others to believe in themselves too, and to understand the value of your offerings.

On our day we documented different aspects of her life, showing her as if on a photo-shoot, getting creative at home, being in nature, and spending time with her lovely partner in the STUNNING Dun Laoghaire.

I traveled over one week in August last year to create these with her and it was an absolute dream visit... loved exploring the area and having some adventures on my own while in Ireland too! Thank you for having me come over to photograph you dear Éadaoin.

Ozora Festival on Film - 2017

I didn't share these photos of my time at Ozora Festival last summer last year. It was such an intense 10 days and I just didn't have the words to describe it, and even this will be brief - I'll let the photos tell the story.

A year has now passed and I've been thinking about it, so finally am sharing the festival through my eyes. I do love these photographs - being immersed and capturing the story of a place and time, the people and the culture is one of my faaavourite things in the world!!

There were so many absolutely beautiful, alienating, magical, terrifying, weird and wonderful moments which I journaled about a lot about at the time... I learnt a lot (mostly that I just cannot handle any length of psytrance), had new perspectives, met some amazing people, some I am still friends with and who I see as real Earth angels.

All photos were shot on my Nikon F100. It was mostly 35mm Portra 400 and some 35mm Revlog Kolor film, which you can buy here (these are the ones with the funky colours going on). I prefer the Portra shots because it's just my favourite film type, and the ones on Revlog came out a bit muddy and I don't love the tonal quality of them. In some ways they add to the effect though, and it was definitely cool to try it out anyway.

You can see more of my personal work here, images taken on 35mm film here and more blog posts from my travels here.

March For Our Lives - San Diego - 24th March 2018

As you might know if you follow me on Instagram, I've been in the states for a few weeks. I was in San Diego during the time of the March For Our Lives demonstration, and had to be there to support this important movement and do my best to document it. Here are some of my thoughts and photographs from the day. To find out more, sign to show your support for March For Our Lives or donate here.

As a young person from the UK, I personally never went to school in fear of mass shootings or this kind of terror in my daily life. It’s easy from afar to be heartbroken about the loss of young lives when we hear about yet another US shooting, to be amazed that such outdated gun control laws are still in effect, to be horrified that anyone can get their hands on military weapons without comprehensive background checks (and from ages far less than you need to be to drive a vehicle or drink alcohol), and to be astonished that more hasn’t been done to finally put an end to this… but to actually be here in the midst of thousands of people who’s lives this literally affects every day, and as a fellow human being, I shared the anger and devastation that this has caused, and was privileged to be a part of this powerful global demonstration.

On Saturday 24th March, I heard such brave young children and teens speak out to the crowds for their right to an education free of the threat of open gun fire, about how their lives are more valuable than the right to bear firearms, about how it is time for this crazy law and culture to change, for school children, teachers and all citizens. It was also important that they brought close attention to the fact that these terrible crimes are called ‘shootings’ when white people are to blame, but ‘terrorism’ when a person of colour, and how so much still needs to change around how language is used when it comes to violence and racism. Beyond the placards and in the eyes of all who who listened, cheered, chanted and marched, I saw passion, determination, hope and solidarity. This generation inspires me, as they demand for change now.

This was one of the most poignant moments... the message had been spoken, the march was complete and the crowds dispersed while many of us stayed to hear the following speeches... and these children sat high above us on climbing frames in the playground with their message in silence.

Bunmi Aboaba - The Sober Advantage - Personal Branding Shoot in Santorini

It was so exciting to shoot with clients Bunmi, Venessa and Ellie in Santorini earlier in 2017! I loved our time together at our beautiful villa, talking business and branding, visibility, challenges and triumphs, dreams and desires! When we come together and open up, we're reminded that we're not alone on this journey, we're reminded of our greatness and inspire new ideas and direction for all - in personal life and in our work. It's so powerful to come together with other women entrepreneurs in this space.

We shot over a couple of days in amazing locations - spoilt for choice with settings around the island, our villa, it's mountainous landscapes, the ocean backdrops and the amazing town Oia which we went to at sunset! So beautiful... and the light!!! Honestly, heavenly. What a special time it was...

If you're bringing your clients on destination retreats around the world or hosting your own mastermind events in the UK, I'd be thrilled to join you there to hold a space for you to connect with your message, your mission, your great work in the world, and create empowered branding portraits with you. These high vibe spaces are amazing for photo shoots, and the resulting photographs are infused with this magnetic energy!

So here are some of my fave shots with Bunmi. Her company, The Sober Advantage works with people who are suffering from addiction and relapse. She helps them with their new routine, supporting them as much as they require with day to day life as they reintegrate to work, social life and family. The Sober Advantage helps people to ground their sobriety in real life situations which otherwise may lead them to compulsive and impulsive behaviours that do not serve them. This can come in the form of companionship, ongoing coaching support or facilitating interventions.

At the time of our shoot, Bunmi was working predominantly with crystal healing, and with her company Crystal and Rox creating yoga wear with special pockets and spaces to hold crystals! We focussed a lot of our shoot on working with these magical stones.

However as Bunmis entrepreneurial journey has evolved, one of the things that pleases me is that the images have still been perfect for her new venture. Even though it was not what we were shooting specifically for at the time it shows me that because our intention is to capture the spirit of a person, in their truth, feeling their best, the images continue to be in alignment with their work even as their business changes!

When we're running a business that is in line with our souls work, the person you're being called to show up as is your true self. You're showing up authentically... and even though we evolve over time and require new, refreshed images to capture and document our expansion to keep your branding on point - the TRUE core of who you are and your values are not going to radically change. I'm all about creating portraits that capture your essence and personality so that your images continue to be a great representation of you.

Check out Bunmis website for more information about her incredible work here.

Ellie Burscough - Personal Branding Shoot in Greece

In January I flew out to Santorini to photograph three incredible women - this is the awesome Ellie Burscough. Ellie is based in Australia and was taking out a few months to travel Europe with her family, running her business as she went and soaking up the beauty and culture of so many amazing destinations! THE DREAM!

It was fascinating to learn about Ellies life and journey through her business, as a personal trainer, mama and competitive powerlifter(!). She coaches her clients around their mindset and strategy to share real value with the world and generate an incredible income. She helps her clients to leverage their unique gifts and offer, and helps them build what they do around their lifestyle and personal goals as she does. I really enjoyed seeing the way she kept in touch with her peeps during our days together, she's an example of a woman in business truly walking her talk - such a pleasure to capture!

On this shoot we wanted to show a mixture of things - being able to work from anywhere as she does, showcase this beautiful Greek island, and enjoying time away from her work. She wanted to use the photos on her website, in social media, emails and promotions across different platforms which you can see on her Facebook page here and website here. I love seeing what she’s sharing about and find her message and content super empowering - go look!!

Just back from Santorini!

Ahh, wow... I just got back from the most amazing time shooting in STUNNING Santorini. It's so dreamy... SO DREAMY! I'm feeling so grateful for the opportunity to go there and shoot in such a beautiful place with such inspiring people.

My dear client Venessa (who I photographed last October at her light filled home in Cyprus) booked a Greek villa for her next shoot. Now that she's using Instagram and social media in a bigger way, she wanted more location based photos with some stunning destination backdrops to evolve her personal brand and take it up to the next level. She invited two of her lovely clients that were also in need of new photos to join us out there!

It was such a special and fun time being together and sharing the experience... Soaking up the beauty of the island, talking business and dreams, sharing ideas and of course creating the most stunning new personal branding shots ever!!

I so enjoyed our time together and it's gotten me thinking about hosting an intimate destination retreat + photoshoot experience later this year... Ooh I feel excited about this idea!! If it calls to you let me know, and I'll keep you in the loop as I map this out! I'm dreaming of California, Indonesia, India, Southern Italy??... Which destination would YOU would most love to go to for the retreat and photo-shoot??

So - I hope your new year is going really wonderfully so far. How are you feeling about 2017 and the intentions you set at the beginning of Jan? I'm heading back home to Brighton this morning and going to an awesome event called Living the Dream 2017 with the lovely Kate TaylorLucy Sheridan and Gail Love Schock to properly look at what happened in 2016 and feel into my desires for the new year. Looking forward to seeing those lovely ladies and taking some time for me.

I've got two spaces left for photoshoots in February now, so if now feels like the time to really expand in your business, raise your visibility MASSIVELY!, refresh your social media, Facebook ads, website photos with gloriously 'ahhhhh I LOVE it!!!' new photos, book in a call with me here and let's explore what we can create!: calendly.com/beckyruiphoto

Wishing you a magical weekend,

Love,
