On capturing the person you’re becoming in your personal brand photography
I believe in making images that both capture who you are, and the person you’re becoming…
We want your new photography to serve you powerfully now, and for the chapter ahead in your biz.
Calling in the energy of what is to come through your photos can be a powerful way to explore how you’d like that to look, grow into your edges, and come away from your shoot with photos that feel like you currently, AND act as a visual anchor to the person you’re evolving into.
However, this comes with a very important caveat:
Your photos have still got to be representative of YOU!
It’s no good creating images of a version of yourself that is inauthentic, overly aspirational or false. Nope.
You won’t feel comfortable using them if they feel untrue or are misrepresenting you.
It’s also important to really sit with the visions we may have of our ‘next level’, to check that how we represent this in our images is in line with our own values - whatever they may be - and not simply dictated by dominant cultures definitions of success without critique.
A mistake I’ve made when having my photos taken in years gone by, is buying into ideas of what I ‘should’ look like in my photos, that were not my own.
With the best of intentions, I have chosen outfits, locations and stories for my photos in the past that, when I saw them in the images, didn’t necessarily line up with what I’m about.
Alongside plenty of keepers I loved and used over & over, I also came away with shots that didn’t feel like me, that I never used.
Like anything, having a photo-shoot provides opportunities for learning, ideas of things we’d do differently next time, and this is part of the process...
(And to be fair, I was in my 20s and figuring out who I was - obvs still am, and may always be!)
But I could have come away from those sessions with a greater variety of images that felt authentic and useable, if I’d stayed rooted in my own truth.
So, while I’m interested in creating images of the person you’re becoming, what I care about most is...
that YOU are always shining through in them
that you recognise yourself in your photos and feel in integrity using them right away
that you’re genuinely excited & inspired to share them, and
that your audience get to engage with an authentic representation of you, that’s congruent with the person they end up working with.
