A Dartmoor walk at Lustleigh Cleave - Nature Photography

My bestie Kate came to visit last month. It’s always exciting to have people here and get to show them around Exeter! There’s so much interesting history to point out and lots of characterful places to visit.

Being so close to Dartmoor though, and knowing how much she loves it, we decided to go for a walk there on our second day together.

There’s an incredible, magical spot that my partner Jon and I explored a few years ago, that despite having driven and walked around looking for it multiple times, I have not been able to locate since. On this day with Kate I tried again to find it, REALLY thought I’d worked it out, but again it eluded me. I will find it again one day!

This was a totally beautiful walk anyway, and very close to the area I had in mind. I’m so glad we did it!

We parked in the pretty village of Lustleigh and walked up to the woods through lanes that sung of Spring with their glowing primroses and sunny celandines, purple violets and periwinkles. We then took a path called Heavens Gate, heading down through woodland of massive mossy boulders, beetles rambling alongside us, and the whisper of the river growing louder as we went.

We had a lil picnic at the edge of the river Bovey, crossed the ancient Clam Bridge, and explored the woods on the other side, pausing to rest on fallen trees and crispy leaf beds, before retracing our steps and going to the pub.

Here are some of the photos I took! (You can see more of my personal work here.)
