Personal Brand Photography in the South West - Katie Louise - Mixed Media Artist
I’m smiling as I share these photos from my April shoot with gorgeous Katie, it was such a special one!
I love getting to capture creatives at work and have been lucky to go behind the scenes with some amazing artists of different mediums over the years.
This shoot was extra special because Katie and I have been friends our whole lives! Growing up in the beautiful Chilterns we both now find ourselves in the South West, and reconnected last year.
A mixed media artist, Katies work stems from her deep connection with landscape and the natural world.
Evoking the healing power of communing with place through her art, she works intuitively, capturing the feeling of an environment in her beautiful and transportive work. She’s deeply passionate about the benefits of creativity and the outdoors on our mental health, for both artist and viewer, and creates an immersive experience through her pieces.
It was important to Katie that her photos felt earthy, honest, natural and real.
Before the day, we shared conversations about her art practice, business and visions for the future, and of course explored her creative process (this can be a weird thing for artists to talk about, but is really fun and interesting to discuss and provides SO much inspo for our photos!). We chose locations local to Katie that had meaning for her, including her studio, and mapped out a plan for our day with a strong shot list.
It was exciting to document the ways she gets inspired, plans her pieces and works with many different medias to create her work. Here are a few of my favourite images from our day (so hard to narrow down, as always!!), and you can read what Katie had to say about it all on this page.
