A personal photography project: The 100 Day Project 2026

I’d heard about the 100 day project for years before taking part in it myself for the first time in 2020.

Running annually around Spring time, it’s an invitation to anyone and everyone who’s feeling a pull to start SOMETHING, to go forth and do it every day for 100 days!

It’s offered lightly - not as a way to overcommit and beat yourself up later for not following through - but as an experiment, a living exploration, and something that should feel fun or of interest to you.

Attracting a lot of creatives, it often manifests as a sketch, a song, a painting, or as Lindsay the host of the project says, it could even be a commitment to brushing your teeth every day. 😅

The idea is that you then post it on your Instagram page as a way of documenting your process, making internet friends, and celebrating the journey!

Each year since 2020 I’ve embarked on a visual project. I started with gouache paintings during the pandemic (when I had a bit more time!), then on to quick sketches, and last year it was simply doodles.

This year for the project, I decided to choose photography as my medium.

This project would be a space for creating imagery outside of my client work.

You can read about my intentions starting the project for 2026 in a post here.

It’s been good to get my camera most days and I take it with me almost everywhere I go.

On the days I didn’t leave the building, I try to capture something around my flat. Usually a house plant!

Sometimes I feel inspired to capture things I see, other days I really don’t, but I try to find something vaguely of interest anyway.

I’ve noticed (maybe unsurprisingly!) that it is the quality of light that I find most inspiring. The way it creates contrast and atmosphere. The shapes that shadows make. The way it brings clarity, vivid colour, sharpness, life.

Some days I take a lot of photos because I am somewhere amazing and I feel very inspired! Other days there is nothing I feel warrants a photo, or I feel too time-short to go and look for something visually interesting. A handful of days I have forgotten entirely about the project, oops.

It’s been good to see what comes up for me when I am out with my camera and what I feel drawn to. (it’s usually trees)

While I have been taking photos almost every day, I have not had the time and space to process them so quickly, so while it’s 14th May today and I am technically somewhere around day 70, I have only posted as far as day 35! So there is lots more to come…

This blog post features a few of my favourite images from the project so far.
